Rata and the Totara Tree Art

Room 5 explored koru art and maori designs before reading the story of Rata and the Totara Tree.

We discovered that just like the birds and insects in the story Room 5 have worked together this year and just like Rata we have learnt to respect our environment and each other

So... we created some spectacular art and student led conference invitations to share the fantastic skills we have learnt this year...

Check out the slideshow of us making our art:

Click on the students' blog to the right to see which of these amazing pictures they created and listen to a recording of what they had to say about their art and the story of Rata and the Totara Tree.

  1. Wow these pictures are just stunning. You are very talented children. I am a year 4/5/6 teacher and you have inspired me to give it a go with my children at school. What year group are you? Beautiful work - you should be very proud of yourselves.

  2. Hi Sarah,
Thank you for your comment. We were a year 4/5 class when we created these images. We started by drawing the outline of the bird in pencil, added the extra detail around the bird before using what we had learnt about blending. We hope you and your students enjoy it as much as we did. :-)

I plan to use it as inspiration for our Rata and the Tree art.
